Hamad Hamad Al-Hammad, a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Contractors Committee at Asharqia Chamber, condemned the decision of the Council of Ministers yesterday to oblige contractors in non-governmental sector projects to insure against hidden defects that may appear in buildings and constructions after use, both structural and otherwise.

He said, "The decision comes within the interest of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Crown Prince towards the rights of individuals and entities, which will raise the quality of buildings and constructions in the Kingdom, and force the large and small companies that work in the field of contracting to raise the quality of work. It will also put the neglected and the opportunistic in front of two options either to provide a high level of perfection and quality or to exit the market."

He added, "This wise decision will revive several sectors and raise the quality of construction. It also serves as a certificate of confidence to consumers and beneficiaries in and out our homeland of the buildings they buy. It remains to be expected that the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs will determine the scope of application in terms of the quality of the targeted buildings, the geographical scope and the duration of the guarantee in order to see its upward and positive impact.
